About Marilyn Maryn
Expertise
what I know most about Yosemite is the types of accomodations on the valley floor (I`ve stayed in all of them from the campgrounds to the deluxe Ahwahnee) and the major hiking trails: Vernal Falls, Nevada Falls, Half Dome, Upper Yosemite Falls, and Glacier Point 4 mile trail. If you think this is enough I`d be glad to help.

Question
Marilyn,
My family and I loved visiting Sequoia, but my wife was terrified of the southern route, highway 198. The roadside drop-off was intense for a person scared of heights.  What road to Yosemite would be the most comforting to travel on, for a person with such a phobia, or are the roads not as extreme? It doesn't necessarily have to be the quickest, even though we are traveling north through Fresno. Thank you, Brian.

Answer
Hi Brian, the least scarey way to get there by far is to go north on hiway 99 from Fresno to Merced where you will see the  turnoff east to 140. Follow 140 East all the way into the park. You will be following the Merced River once you get past Mariposa, and it is a beautiful drive, and much lower in elevation than any other route. This is also the most direct way to get to Yosemite Village, where most of the famous landmarks are. Have fun!
