About Marilyn Maryn
Expertise
what I know most about Yosemite is the types of accomodations on the valley floor (I`ve stayed in all of them from the campgrounds to the deluxe Ahwahnee) and the major hiking trails: Vernal Falls, Nevada Falls, Half Dome, Upper Yosemite Falls, and Glacier Point 4 mile trail. If you think this is enough I`d be glad to help.

Question
Hi
So do you like Curry over Yosemite Lodge . How close is Curry to the major sites, is it in the valley or outside the park. My 18 year old son and I are planning a 3-4 day hiking trip with a photo guidein December
Thanks
Jim M

Answer
Hi Jim, both places are on the valley floor and close to the attractions. Curry Village has a larger variety of accomodations ranging from simple tent cabins without bath, to wood duplex cabins with bath. There are also standard hotel type rooms with or without bath. None of the rooms have tvs. All rooms are on one level, no multi-storied buildings or stairs to climb. There is a cafeteria, grocery store and a couple of restaurants right on the grounds. It has a dramatic setting at the base of sheer granite cliffs that are 3,000 ft high. Also you can see Half Dome from the grounds. My favorite place to stay though is in one of the lodge rooms at Yosemite lodge. They are very nicely decorated and have luxuries like a tv and refrigerator. Also they have a patio with table and chairs to sit out on and enjoy the scenery and wildlife. They also have less expensive standard rooms, which also include a tv and bath. Yosemite Lodge is walking distance to Yosemite Falls, and you can see the falls from many of the rooms. Also it's walking distance to Yosemite Village and the visitors center. At both Curry and Yosemite Lodge a free shuttle comes by every 10 or 15 minutes that can take you anyplace on the valley floor, for example, trailheads for the major hiking trails, Yosemite Village, horse back riding stables, Ahwahnee lodge, etc.  - So in conclusion, if expense is an issue, it's quite a bit less expensive to stay at Curry Village, especially if you don't mind a room without bath, but if not, Yosemite Lodge is quite a bit nicer and more comfortable, plus I like the location more, although like I said, both places are convenient to the major sites. You can compare them yourself and see pictures of each here: http://www.yosemitepark.com/Accommodations.aspx
Let me know if you have anymore questions, and have a great trip!
Marilyn
