Young Adult Books - novel suggestions

Expert: Ella Erlin - 9/11/2008

Question
i was just wondering if you have any suggestions for really great novels. i'm a grade twelve student looking for a novel for an ISU, and basically i want something that i'll enjoy because i'll be reading it oer once or twice. I'm a big fan of the romance type novel. i read Jane Eyre last year and absolutely loved it! do you know of any novels that are similar to Jane Eyre? or any that might be just a fantastic love story or something? i'd appreaciate any help finding a book that i can get! thanks! Stephanie

Answer
Wide Sargossa Sea by Jean Rhys is a prequel of sorts to Jane Eyre, and very similar. Jane Eyre's Daughter by Elizabeth Newark is a page-turner, though less "traditional" English style than Jane Eyre. Any books by Jane Austin (she writes classics: Pride and Prejudice, Emma, etc.)

Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights," and Anne Bronte's "Agnes Grey," are great choices. (They are Charlotte's sisters). Any of the other books by Charlotte Bronte might interest you.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is an amazing book you may enjoy (one of my all-time favorites, it does take two or so reads to fully understand it), as well as Carisbooke Abbey by Amanda Grange.

I haven't read The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde, but I have heard very good things about it. It is more of a science fiction novel surrounding the abduction in Jane Eyre.

This is just a short list, and very exclusive, but I tried to choose novels that you would like the most. Feel free to ask any follow-up questions -
