About Elroy Sanford
Expertise
Questions regarding group and solo albums and his music career from his time in Winnipeg are my strongest area of expertise, followed by general questions about himself and his family. I have absolutely no connections to Mr. Young or any of his friends or family, though, so "insider" questions probably cannot be answered.

Experience
Over the last few years, I have acquired every album by Mr. Young (only missing a few single sides), have bought numerous biographies and have learned as much as I can about Mr. Young.

Education/Credentials
B. A. in Political Science and History, August 2004.
Briefly studied at the Master's level, 2005-2006.
Over 1,250 albums.

Question
A few years ago, I heard that Neil Young's six missing albums were all being re-released. I was able to find "On The Beach", "American Stars 'N Bars", "Re*Ac*Tor" and "Hawks and Doves", but couldn't find the other two. Should I give up searching, or are the other two actually out there?

Answer
Bud,

The other two are "Journey Through The Past" (1972) and "Time Fades Away" (1973), but you've got to give up searching for compact disc versions of them. Young only gave the OK to release the four you've found. Neil Young's always been an experimenter, and that has led him to find problems with experiments later on.

"Time Fades Away" was unfortunately recorded direct to disc, leaving no master tape for Young to restore for the compact disc age. The chances for this album to make it to CD are extremely slim. There's a petition out there calling for its release, I suggest that you sign it. You can find it at http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/release-time-fades-away.

The soundtrack to the rarely-seen Young-directed film "Journey Through The Past" has even less of a chance to make it onto compact disc. The tracks were a hodgepodge of live Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young tracks, live Buffalo Springfield tracks, dialogue from the film, rehearsal versions of tracks from "Harvest", one new song and the Beach Boys' "Let's Go Away For Awhile", direct from "Pet Sounds". Due to the sheer number of sources, Young would have an even harder time remastering this album than he would with "Time Fades Away".

Attempt to find the albums on vinyl if you can, or through other means (MP3 or P2P). That's going to have to tide you over. The one new song from "JTTP", "Soldier", is on "Decade". With the exception of the tracks from the movie, you can get other versions of all the songs on Buffalo Springfield, CSNY or Neil Young discs.
