Subject: supergroup
Question Hi Bill,I was told that during 76/79 there was a possibility that a supergroup containing Dylan, young, garcia and John Prine was disscussed, why did it never happen, and could it happen in the future?
Answer Dear Jason,
Yes, such a supergroup was discussed. It never happened due to many reasons. Dylan was busy with his 5 1/2 hour film "Renaldo and Clara" which took four years to edit. Young was busy with tours with Stephen Stills, Crazy Horse, an aborted attempt at a CSNY album, plus two films he was directing: Rust Never Sleeps (the soundtrack of this is available as "Live Rust")and Human Highway (a film with Dennis Hopper). Garcia was helping David Crosby with an album and Prine had other commitments.
It won't happen in the future. For starters, Garcia is dead. He died of a heart attack in 1996. Dylan and Young did appear together at the Band's final concert "The Last Waltz", which is available on video and double CD and Young did contribute a few contributions to Dylan's Grammy winning album "Time Out of Mind". Both are getting older (Dylan is 60, Young is 55)Both are still making music and albums and that is great, but their touring is getting less and less each year.
Thanks for writing,
Bill
