Yu-Gi-Oh/negate activation vs. negate effect

Question
ok, I got the difference between negate and destroy.  So I understand that Mystical Space Typhoon does not stop the effect of the trap or spell it destroys.

my question is what is the difference between "negate activation" and "negate activation and effect."

For example, If I have a dark monster on the field and my opponent plays a quick spell to destroy that monster.

Dark Illusion says it "negates the activation" while Spell Shield Type-8 says it "negates the activation and effect."  To me this is the same thing, and I believe a completely separate issue from the MST destroy vs. effect conversation.

I did some initial research on my own and found http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Negate saying
"To Negate a card, is to prevent a Card from activating and/or using its effect."  So, my guts says they are the same thing.

bottom line, if I use a "negate activation" card like dark illusion does my monster still die?

Please site anything you can... (like the wikia or yugioh-card.com rulings).  Thanks!

Answer
I used here and my brain =D

So they are in effect the same thing. If you were to negate the activation of say a spell card and royal magical library or something that gains spell counters when a spell is activated was on the field and if you negated the ACTIVATION of the spell, you get no counter because it is as if the card was never played. But if you negate the activation and the effect, it is in effect the same thing. However, if you only negate the effect of say smashing ground and you use dark illusion, the effect is canceled, but if royal magical or anything like that was on the field, it would still get the counter because it was activated, it just did not resolve.
So the main idea of this is if you negate the activation of something, everything is negated. Negating activation and effect is the same as activation only UNLESS the card says differently. Negating the effect only stops the card from resolving, but it still activates for spell counters.
I hope this helps and you understand it.

I can answer most questions about card effects and there rulings. I play with a monarch deck, but i have a plant deck, GBs, Absolute Zero, Fortune Ladies, Flamevell Sworn, and my own hand control deck. If you are going to ask for a deck made from scratch, or i make you a deck from scratch, it may take more then 24 hours to do so. If for any reason it does take me more then 24 hours to answer your question i am really sorry. Also, for deck fixes it would be helpful if you put it in list form and not paragraph form because it is hard to read. Only tournament competitive decks please. I do not fix decks that have banned cards, and they will be sent to the question pool. I use the current ban list which is currently March 2010 in the Yugioh TCG, not OCG. I have school now so if i can't get to your question i'm sorry, but if you resubmit it on a weekend i should be able to get it. I'm also at regionals this weekend so i won't be answering any questions. http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/limited/ I compete in tournaments often and usually make it to the top 4. I hope i help with all i do and if i can improve please tell me so and how. NOTE: I don't have much experience in these decks: I will try my best with them though Hopeless Dragon Batteryman Duelist Based Decks from the shows Morphtronic (There are too many morphtronic monsters) Sept. 1st Demise Decks

Experience

I have played yugioh practically my whole life. I go to tournaments a lot. I like building decks just to experiment and trade a lot. I have won tournaments before, and go to regionals.
