Yu-Gi-Oh/ruling for rug

Question
Hey man,I was thinking that pulling the rug only negated effects that activated because a monster was normal summoned and not something like a continuous effect which takes effect after it was normal summoned though not because of. Am I right? As others at a local tournament seem to disagree and how can I back it up if I am right. I am specifically talking about Horus lv6 though this is only because it was the monster.
Thanks

Answer
You're right.

Let me give you examples of some that work and some that don't, and why:

*Monarchs -- they say "When this monster is Tribute Summoned Successfully".  Tribute summon = Normal Summon as far as the game's concerned.  It negates those.

*Gadgets -- They say "When you Normal Summon or Special Summon this card"...so if they trigger on a Normal, you get your search.

*Elemental Hero Stratos -- same thing, when he's Normal Summoned.

*Sonic Bird, Senju of the Thousand Hands and Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands -- all of those go upon Normal Summon.

What DOESN'T work:

*Continuous effects -- Jinzo, Spell Canceller, Horus Lv. 6, Horus Lv. 8, Witch's Apprentice, etc.  -- if the effect starts by "As long as this monster's face-up on the field", or if it's an effect that automatically comes on and you can't do anything about it, then you can't negate it.

*Effects you can use Ignition to use at summon, but aren't specific to summoning -- like tributing Exiled Force as soon as you summon it, using Blowback Dragon's effect as soon as it comes into play, paying for Demise as soon as it comes into play.  Those aren't considered "activated because it was Normal Summoned."

*Flip effects.  Flip Summon does not = Normal Summon.

That should clear up most questions -- follow up if something still isn't clear.

ON VACATION indefinitely. I have not had the chance to be competitive as of lately as there are no Regionals in the area and my work schedule has kept me from traveling out of state. If I expect to be more than a couple of months I will try to see if I can appoint a new guru for the category. My apologies to those seeking to ask me questions, but I am nowhere near as much help as I would like to be right now.
