As far as the second half of your question: Go get "The Yellow Shark" on CD. It will impress examiners because:
a) it is performed by the highly regarded German "Ensemble Moderne"
b) there are numerous interesting pieces on there that would met your requirement for eclecticism. Have a listen to that CD and then email me offline (manning@bartlett.net). I'm in Sydney too, so I'll give you my home phone then.
