Question
I had a wonderful Daring Jumping Spider in my office (I let her in through the window) for a few days and she was a delight.  Until I was told to get rid of her. (She let herself down from the ceiling right at eye level in front of my assistant.)  I let her back out the way she came in. Anyway, I understand how they are classed as "Jumping Spiders", but what is with the "Daring" part.  She just roamed around letting me know she was still there, but did not do anything "daring".  Can you answer this?

I also had a great red legged T. in my office when I worked in Seattle and she did a really good job of reducing unwanted visits from staff.  Yes, she was in an aquarium.  Might just get another one as I love them.  Gail

Answer
I do not know how common names come about but my guess is that the "daring" comes from the spiders behavior.  They do not appear to be afraid of anything.  I had one that was hanging around my computer monitor for a while.  It would just sit on top of the monitor and stare at me.
I have kept tarantulas for many years not,  I presently have a rose hair named Gypsy Rose
