Question
Can animals  only within a genus crossbreed?

Answer
  Hi Lawrence
Only animals of the same species can breed true i.e. produce fertile offspring. Animal of separate species will produce sterile hybrids. A few in separate Genera can breed (such as sheep and goats) can also produce hybrids. This happens among domestic animals and with human experimentation Ex tigers and lions. In Nature auch animals occupy separate niches and do not encounter each other
